Find Your Super Bloom this Spring With These 3 Good Creative Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends,

Spring is brimming with blooms. With the enormous winter rains we had here in California, all the seeds nature planted last year are turning the hillsides into what is called a “Superbloom!” Bright orange California poppies, ombre purple Lupine, and delicate pink Dwarf Checker Mallow flowers fill the landscape and this spectacular display of color made me think about how anyone can find creative progress after dormancy. This week…

Find Your Super Bloom this Spring With These 3 Good Creative Ideas.

  1. Color Wonder: Have you ever walked through a park or watched a beautiful sunset and been overwhelmed by color? Yes, there is a reason why sky blue and flame orange look so beautiful together, and we can practice these same color rules when we pick a couch color, make a dinner delightful or plant a rose garden. Read about “Color Theory Basics: How To Use Color Theory in Interior Design” on Foyr and watch your color knowledge bloom.

  2. Sketch For The Curious: Sometimes we feel our creative progress stop. We get burnt out from doing the same creative work day after day. Whether it’s how to: design our house, raise children, find career growth, or make dinner we can all start to feel drained by creative work. Get your creative bloom back by sketching on this Quick Draw Doodle Program from Google. It’s a fun way to take a break and be curious and sketch for fun.

  3. Not All Who Wander: Trying something new rewires the brain. That is to say, studies show, it is good for your mental health to go out, get lost, somewhere or in something. Read more at Adventures.com “How Travel Changes Your Brain” or try a new sport such as Stand-up Paddleboarding to see how getting out of a comfort zone can make us bloom!

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on and how you let your creativity bloom.

3 Creative And Easy Ways To Make Planet Earth Healthy And Happy.

Hi, Creative Friends,

Tomorrow is Earth Day! We are all spinning on a beautiful round sphere in the middle of space. Our amazing planet is full of diversity and wonder. However, like frogs boiling in a pot of water, we feel the pain and damage we are doing to our big blue beautiful home. That’s why here are…

3 Creative And Easy Ways To Make Planet Earth Healthy And Happy.

  1. Plant A Tree: Warren Buffet said it best, “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” Trees give us so much including the air we breathe, they keep the planet cool, and make the world we live in rich history. That’s why deforestation threatens us all. Planting a tree now at The Nature Conservatory will ensure life in the future.

  2. Creative Earth: If you think creativity can’t influence and change minds, look at 10 Artists Tackling Climate Change and their work. Their work can help us gain a fresh perspective on how the planet needs help.

  3. Art Exchange: That big box of crayons sitting in the bottom of a closet, the drawer of mix-matched markers in the kitchen drawer, a ball of thread from a Halloween costume sitting in the hall closet, the buckets of paint filling the garage shelf, and the pile of books at the foot of the bed all are treasures for other artists or friends. Try exchanging art materials at a place like the Creative Refuse Depot or installing a “Little Free Library” to pass on stories. Sharing materials can inspire creativity and help the planet in the process.

Hi, Creative Friends,

This is a Public Service Announcement. Mother’s Day is May 9th. Let’s celebrate our beautiful mommas by getting creative together!

This week, create a super happy mom, with these 3 simple creative ideas.

  1. Molly J. Wilk’s French Pastry Class: If you have a mom that loves to bake and also misses the art of travel, Molly J. Wilk has a solution. She offers accessible french pastry classes virtually from her kitchen in Versailles, France which can be found here on her website Molly J. Wilk Virtual Pastry Classes. All classes are held on Zoom and she provides recipes and the ability to access a private Facebook group to interact with other bakers. Molly also has a cookbook coming out in June called “French Pastry Made Simple” which can be pre-ordered! Either or both the pastry class and her book would keep mom’s creative juices flowing.

  2. Life In Color With David Attenborough: If curling up on the couch with Momma sounds like a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day, try the new documentary from Netflix “Life In Color With David Attenborough.” It’s full of beautiful images and wildlife wonders! Speaking of color, if Mom loves to wear beautiful things inspired by nature, and supporting small business is important, find mother a beautiful scarf from a local shop such as Morningtide.

Here Are 3 Ways To Create Joy & Nurture Planet Earth This Weekend.

Hi, Creative Friends,

In celebration of this week’s Earth Day, we might be thinking more about the magical, spinning globe that sits beneath our feet, Planet Earth! We might be looking for simple ways to create change, in our lives, to help the planet stay beautiful.

This week, nurture planet earth and create joy with these 3 simple creative ideas.

  1. The Omnivore’s Dilemma: Save on paper, save trees. Try an audiobook subscription from Audible or check out a book from the local library. One book that hits home about the impact of our consumption on the planet and the food chain that impacts us is Michael Pollan’s “The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A History Of Four Meals.” It’s a fascinating read about the food we eat and the hidden cost of our meals.

  2. Minimalist Baker: Eating a vegetarian diet can be great for the planet. Finding good vegetarian recipes can be hit or miss. Try the website Minimalist Baker and their Vegan Sloppy Joes Recipe here. This smokey tomato-infused recipe is a hit around our house! Our weekend plans include whipping up this Blueberry Maple Protein Shake recipe. Minimalist Baker also has a cookbook, “Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking: 101 Entirely Plant-Based, Mostly Gluten-Free Easy Delicious Recipes.” and might just make a great Mother’s Day gift.

  3. Eco Wood Art Frame. Looking for beautiful art frames for family photos or pieces of art? Try Woodside Art Frames for their 100% Solid Eco Wood. The frames come in many sizes and options. Pair it with this Blueberry Garden Art Print From Society 6 and create a joyful green space within any home.

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on or a creative idea on how to help the planet.

3 Creative Things To Keep Us Busy While We Wait For Joy.
la_morning_bn_andra_weber.JPG

Hi, Creative Friends,

If you are a bit like me, there is a feeling maybe this pandemic is almost over. Does anyone else feel the tension, anticipation, and hope that joy will return to our lives soon?

This week, while we hope for happiness to return, here are 3 ideas that inspire bits of creative joy.

  1. Ernest Hemingway: the great American novelist, has something to say about the human spirit and it’s a good quote for times like these. “But man is not made for defeat… A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” -The Old Man and The Sea. A new documentary is out on PBS by Ken Burns about Mr. Hemingway and it is full of scandal, strife, and the compelling story of this very flawed man. You can check out the trailer here. It’s the stuff they don’t tell you in school when you read “The Old Man and The Sea.”

  2. The Morning Bun: Here in the Bay Area, we have a breakfast roll called, The Morning Bun. It’s a sugary, cinnamon swirl of doughy delight that is a combination of a cinnamon roll and a croissant dough. The best morning buns are at La Farine Bakery in Oakland, California which was the birthplace of this morning treat. Read about the history here on My Recipes. For those of you who can’t stop by one of the three La Farine Bakeries, this Morning Bun recipe from Bon Appetite looks scrumptious and might just make a little joy while we wait for the world to return to normal.

  3. Manley Crayons: There are so many bright, spring flowers popping right now. How do we capture that vibrance and joy of this moment? Try sketching those beautiful buds with Manely Crayons which made in Spain, are super bright, and smell like a lovely soap. They are a great way to keep busy and get creative now.

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on or something that puts a spring in your step.

Put a Spring In Your Step And Share These 3 Simple Creative Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends,

Spring is here and Easter is Sunday. Are you falling short on simple ideas to make this time of year special?

This week, in the spirit of Easter, here are 3 ideas that inspire & lift up the Spring creative spirit.

  1. Traveling to far-off places has always been a source of inspiration. The food, the architecture the people can light up the old grey matter and bring on unique ideas. What do we do when we can’t travel? Try watching “Searching for Italy” by Stanely Tucci on CNN. It’s a feast for the soul. It’s bouncing full of so many creative ideas like Stanely’s Easter bread which has been added next to my creative bucket list. It looks delicous!

  2. If the Easter bunny is cramped for time and needs something fast to make for Easter breakfast, try my Jammy Biscuit recipe here. It's a super easy recipe since it calls for pre-made biscuit rolls and it brings joy and delight to everyone who takes a bite on Easter morning. Another great recipe to try on Easter morning, Glazed Cinnamon Cardomon Buns from Epicurious. Add a few chocolate eggs such as Cadbury Mini Eggs on top of the recipe and your Easter morning breakfast has never looked so beautiful. Be warned this recipe is a bit complicated but nonetheless delicious.

    3. Who feels like getting a bit messy but keeping it simple with a spring forward craft? How about checking out “45 different ways to dye Easter eggs” on Better Homes & Gardens. There are so many great ideas on this site but the washi tape idea seems simple and easy. I’m going to using 3 mm washi tape and hopefully create some fabulous easter eggs.

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on or something that puts a spring in your step.

Here Is the Easiest Recipe To Celebrate Spring.
rhubarb_sauce_sq.jpg

// hello friends-

The start of spring is here and the good stuff has started to bloom. Flowers are popping, sunshine is bursting, birds are singing and bees are humming their way right into the most creative time of the year. For a short few weeks spring also provides us with the perfect spring vegetable:

Rhubarb!

In my book, this darling stalk of red, glossy goodness makes spring the most delightful time of year. You can read all about this unappreciated vegetable here on: EarthEasy “Rhubarb: The Unsung Hero Of The Spring Garden.”

After researching rhubarb, we might find our stomachs rumbling for an easy rhubarb recipe. Slather this rhubarb spread on bread, layer it in a delicious dessert or just eat it spoonful by spoonful to celebrate this perfect time of year!

rhubarb_sauce_.jpg

Rhubarb Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 10 cups chopped rhubarb STALKS ONLY! (remove all green leaves from the stalks as the leaves are poisonous)

  • 3/4 - 1 cup unfiltered honey (add more or less honey depending sweet to tart ratio)

Step 1: In a large sauce pan, add the rhubarb and honey and turn the burner to medium-high heat. Let the mixture come to a boil and stir.

Step 2: Set and start a timer for 20 minutes. Let the mixture cook and stir frequently. When 5 minutes is left on the timer, carefully taste the mixture as the mixture will be hot. Add more honey if the mixture is too sour for liking. Continue to cook until the mixture is the consistency of pudding, about 5-10 minutes more.

Step 3: Let the rhubarb sauce cool. Place the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Slather, layer it, drop it on top of just about anything!

What an easy and delicious way to celebrate spring!

Until soon friends. //

Here Is How To Freshen Up Your Office For Spring.

string_art_sq_2.jpg

// hello friends -

Spring has sprung! Our landscapes are coming alive with flowers blooming, little critters hatching and sunny days filled with glorious warm moments. Many of us may feel the impulse to do some spring cleaning or freshen up our home with a fresh coat of bright paint, a big flower bouquet or find just the right spot for a new plant. When I came across this DIY air plant string art project by ProFlowers, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to create a modern decor piece for my office!

Air plant string art combines creative string art designs with air plant accents to create unique living art for your space. There are so many different styles that you can create with this concept, from bohemian to minimalist and everything in between. Check out these amazing design ideas from ProFlowers.

When I went to create my project, I kept it neutral. However, go ahead and feel inspired to paint the wood base with a bright coral or aqua for a fun pop of color on your wall. If you plan on painting your base, just give the surface time to dry before you start hammering the nails into the wood.

Let’s get started on this “DIY Air Plant String Art” by ProFlowers.

string_art_supplies.jpg
string_art.jpg

To create your own personal air plant string art follow the instructions laid out below or check out the comprehensive “DIY Air Plant String Art Tutorial” at ProFlowers.

Step 1: In pencil, mark where your nails will go with light markings on your wood.

Step 2: Hammer in the nails on a protected/covered work surface. Make sure to leave at least half an inch exposed above the wood so you’ll have room to tie and cut your string.

Step 3: Tie your string onto the nail at your starting point and make sure it’s tied tight.

Step 4: Wrap your string around different nails, loop them twice for a better hold.

Step 5: Tie the string and cut off any loose ends, make sure the string is pulled tight so the air plants will stay put on in the string.

Step 6: Place the air plants in your string design and make sure they’re secure.

Step 7: Enjoy! Display your art by propping it up or hanging it on a wall and just your air plants regularly to keep them fresh.

* When purchasing the wood base, consider the thickness of the wood and the length of the nails needed for your project. For example, a 1/4 inch thick base would be too thin for a 1-inch nail.

This Is How To Bring Joy To Mother's Day.

Day 10 Of Finding Empathy.

Who deserves more empathy than our moms? With Mother's Day just around the corner, it might be essential to take a moment to think about ALL the super mothers that provide support in our lives. Sure, there are the biological moms, friends that step-in as a mom, and sisters who come forward to give excellent mom advice.

But what about the Mom Squad?

They are the group of mom friends that pick up a kid at a moments notice, drop off a good book when we need to stretch our "mom brain" and stuff Goldfish crackers in our kids pocket so the walk home from school won't be so miserable.

They are absolute gold as they offer support in the ways we don't know we need.

We should celebrate them. Throw them a party to say thank you. Maybe a Frosé party?

Yes!

Afterall, what mom wouldn't want to sip wine slushies and chat for hours on end with her mom friends?

This is such an amazing way to celebrate mom!

The best news of the day is our friends at ProFlowers have the whole Frosé party plan ready to put into action. Here is what ProFlowers has to say celebrating Mother's Day with Frosé goodness.

Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the person who has given us so much in our lives. Our moms and mom figures are worthy of all the praise and celebration we can. Instead of the tried and true Mother’s Day brunch, why not try something different this year that’s a little more fun and has a little more wine?

A Mother’s Day frosé party is just what you need to go the extra mile and show all your favorite moms that you appreciate them! Frosé is an adult slushie made with fresh fruit and frozen rosé. This pretty pink drink is a refreshing, delicious and easy to make! ProFlowers created a handy frosé party guide with tips for stocking your table, styling your glasses and creating the perfect drink that’s uniquely yours. Take a look to see how you can host the best frosé party of the season!

Well, let the party planning begin and say thank you to every single mom in our lives that make things better every day.

Cheers to Mom(s) everywhere!

Until soon friends.

Why The Creative Process Will Make You Smarter.

Day 9 Of Finding Empathy.

Creating something is hard work. It takes bravery to begin work that is important. We must rely on nerves similar to that of a sea captain holding her boat steady in a storm to create something that is the most authentic and highest expression of ourselves.

When we go through the creating process, we most likely will get caught a cycle that focuses on the outcome. It might go something like this:

It might be wise to stop this internal dialogue right before it begins. It focuses on the outcome, not the process. Think about it. It's the process that makes us smarter not the product. The process is where the value lies.

What if we changed our internal cue cards to focus on the vital part of creating? The process is the part that contains empathy and control over the future.

What if we changed our dialogue to:

This might make us enjoy our creative journey by providing the empathy to move forward to tomorrow.

This Is Why You Need Coffee And Creativity.

Day 8 Of Finding Empathy.

Sometimes we need a boost to get out of a funk, rut or hole. We may think we need a magic wand or fancy tool to help us out of our negative space.

Nope. We just need each other.

That's it.

Well, and a dash of creativity.

We are all creative. It's a skill we should all cultivate, nurture and habitualize as it has the power to not only change our lives but the lives around us. However, we can often become overwhelmed by possibilities and by choice. It ends in a cycle of chasing our tail.

This is when we need a PIC or "Partner In Creating." We need someone who can empathize, listen and most importantly meet for coffee. Sometimes it's awkward to start a deep dive therefore here are five steps to make a creative meet-up meaningful and fun:

Good luck with the meet-up. If you need me and want to get coffee, just drop me a line.

Until soon creative friends.
