Find Joy In Making The Year New With These 3 Creative Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends-

It’s the middle of January and if you are a bit like me, the new year might feel like a pair of brand new hiking shoes. The shoes are stiff and feel joyless without the miles of long wandering hikes, muddy trails, and days in the languishing sun. Just like those hiking shoes, the year needs to be broken in with some wandering and creative joy.

Therefore…

Here Are 3 Creative Ideas To Find New Joy In The New Year

  1. Arrange The Day: January can bring on the dark, grey days of winter. To brighten up any space, grab a big bunch of flowers at your local market and try this Skillshare Class: Modern Flowers: Arranging A Stunning Centerpiece.

  2. Sunday Scones: Ah, the scone! It’s too dry to be a muffin and too special to be served on a weekday. However categorized, the scone is the elusive darling of the breakfast table. Since the art of making scones is a bit of a mystery, let’s make Sundays, “Scone Day” and learn to make a delicious buttery scone this new year. For a simple and delicious recipe that breaks down the process, try King Arthur’s Simple Scone Recipe.

  3. Ask For Joy: Do have a mentor, friend, or someone whose talents you admire? They might have a class or a resource they are willing to share to spread their creative joy. This is the case for the amazing illustrator Rebecca Green. Her work and storytelling are absolutely beautiful. Surprisingly, she has a blog “My Blank Paper” and Patreon classes where she offers advice and tutorials. Find joy in the new year and creating by reading about her work or someone who you admire. It’s a surefire way to get inspired and reach your 2022 creative goals in a joyful way.

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on and how you will find joy in creating in 2022.

Surprise! It's The New Year And I'm Back With 3 Creative Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends-

Happy New Year! Surprise! I’m back in your inbox with more creative ideas for 2022!

If you are a bit like me, the new year is a great time to set specific goals and dream up new ideas. However, January can be tough on our mental well-being. This new year, in particular, feels like we are taking a cat for a walk in the middle of winter, slightly joyful but absolutely confusing! Finding the energy to set resolutions can be daunting. So…

Here Are 3 Ideas To Take Our Creativity By Surprise.

  1. Something Borrowed. Something New: Pick a book or movie that is NOT on the “need to read this list.” A great way to find something new and surprise yourself is to try the app Libby (It’s free!). A public library card, a device, and Libby will get you access to a big range of books, magazines, and cookbooks in moments. It’s a great way to get the creative juices going and support and surprise those New Year’s resolutions.

  2. Mindmap: If the new year is making you feel overwhelmed and need a place to organize your thoughts, try Asana. This organizational software will help calm your mind and organize the year into tangible goals so creativity has time to flow.

  3. Be Inspired By Someone Else: Do have a mentor, friend, or someone whose talents you admire? You might be surprised they offer their teachings for free or at a minimal cost. This is the case for the amazing illustrator Rebecca Green. Her work and storytelling are absolutely beautiful. Surprisingly, she has a blog “My Blank Paper” and Patreon classes where she offers advice and tutorials. Suprise your creativity by reading about her work or someone who you admire. It’s a surefire way to get inspired and reach your 2022 creative goals in a surprising way.

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on and how you will surprise your creativity in 2022.

Make Fall Happy Y'all With These 3 Creative Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends-

It’s September! It isn’t officially autumn but it IS time to get ready for days brimming with magical warm greetings, making with dashes of cinnamon, and curling up in a warm sweater to do something thougtful. That’s why…

This week, here are 3 creative ideas to start off fall happy…

  1. Greetings For Fall Y’all: Greeting a new season in a new way, whether it’s mentally taking a moment to celebrate the switch from one season to the next or by purchasing something beautiful to celebrate a new beginning can inspire happiness! Try framing and placing this “Happy Fall Y’all” art print on a mantel or display it on a door. A simple act can spread and help celebrate the autumn shift in such a big way!

  2. Delicious To The Core: In last week’s newsletter, I shared a secret recipe: The Ultimate Apple Pie Milkshake which uses autumn’s most delicious and perfect apple, the Honeycrisp, to make the most divinely, decadent milkshake. You can find the recipe again here but if learning something new this fall sounds like a good way to create happiness, try Molly Wilk’s virtual french baking class “Tarte Tatin” class. In the class, we will learn how to make a true French classic – Tarte Tatin, an upside-down apple cake!

  3. Fall Into Sketching: The longer days can bring us indoors and we might find ourselves looking for something other than Netflix to keep our brains happy. Try this Skillshare class “Illustrated Journaling” by the very talented Dylan Mierzwinski. I’ve been taking the class and it’s a super fun way to relax and get creative everyday! If you are new to sketching and need a good set of supplies to make sketching satisfying and happy, here are my personal favorites: markers, pens, and a notebook/sketchbook.

3 Creative Ways To Make This Summer Fun And Fantastic!

Hi, Creative Friends,

It’s official, we are smack dab in the middle of summer! If you are a bit like me, finding the best part of summer is about loving the simple things, like a warm summer day at the local pool, taking an hour to learn something new, or eating something of the season like a juicy, fruit galette.

This week, let’s make Summer fun and fantastic, with these 3 creative ideas:

  1. Say Peaches!: Creating summer fun can be as simple as looking at the local market for ripe, sweet fruit such as perfectly plump peaches. Whip up a Fruit Galette with this NYT cooking recipe or scoop up “French Pastry Made Easy” by Molly J. Wilk and make your summer sweet and fantastic with a perfect summer dessert. Here is a secret baking tip. Add this Heilala Vanilla Bean Paste to the crust of your fruit galette and make this galette the best dish enjoyed all summer long.

  2. Pool Time = Fun Times: Keeping everyone happy, especially little humans, during the summer can be daunting. Luckily, a long warm day at the local pool can make everyone fantastically joyful and worn out. Throw on a swimsuit such as this one, grab a water bottle like this one and pack a cooler full of drinks & snacks, and watch the summer memories spill over into fall!

  3. Dive Into Learning: It’s always good to expand our minds and Skillshare offers so many great classes to fill a few hours of each day learning something new such as Still Lifes Are Cool! Contemporary And Traditional Art In Acryla Gouache by Dylan Mierzwinski. With a notebook such as this Strathmore Soft Cover Mixed Media Art Journal and a small set of Acryla Gouache, this class teaches the fundamentals of building and mixing colors. If painting up cherries sounds like too much pressure for summer, try my Creative Magic Everyday: How To Unlock Your Creative Magic Now! class, it helps develop the simple art of finding creative ideas.

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on or how will you make your summer fun and fantastic!

Make Summer Creative & Sweet With These 3 Happy Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends,

It’s not officially the season of floating down a lazy river, eating boatloads of ice cream, or loafing around the backyard. However, in preparation for summer let’s take…

This week, sweeten the start of the summer with these 3 happy, creative ideas.

  1. Go Wild In Your Backyard Or Living Room: Is there anything more beautiful than snipping a bouquet of homegrown wildflowers? Try planting a bundle of California Wildflower Seeds brimming with Golden State poppies or purchase this California Wild Flower art print from Society 6 to start the season sweet and make any room happy.

  2. Make A Travel Plan In Your Own Kitchen: Some of us are yearning to travel to someplace new but still are having trouble leaving the comfort of our own home. Try creating a sweet escape in your own kitchen with this new cookbook “French Pastry Made Simple” by Molly Wilkinson. Molly makes the most complicated french pastry recipes, such as cream puffs and eclairs, downright simple and sweetens the experience with her American In France perspective.

  3. Let’s Go Fly A Kite: A super cool DIY project is always an exciting way to celebrate the start of summer and kite flying always makes the soul soar. Making one’s own kite is thrilling and easy! You Will Be Doing Great With These 3 Positive Creative Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends,

If you are a bit like me, you might be feeling awkward as we slowly lift the veil of the pandemic mask and try to return to a sense of “normal.” If we are feeling a bit out of sorts, it’s a great time to bring on positive thoughts and build up some creative mojo.

This week, remind yourself you are doing great, with these 3 simple creative ideas.

  1. A Belly Laugh Does the Soul Good: If you need a reminder we are all humans just trying to survive and need a good laugh watch “You Are Doing Great” by Tom Papa on Netflix. Tom reminds us that we need to pat ourselves on the back for just being human.

  2. Pandemic Pets Rule: A pet does the mind good. Did you know the bond between humans and pets can lower cholesterol, blood pressure and bring on feelings of happiness? Just looking at images of pets and make us feel positive. If having a pet isn’t possible, try these books on pets “Catlady: A Love Letter To Women And Their Cats" by Leah Reena Goren or this adorable kids book about “Brooklyn Baily, The Missing Dog” illustrated by Libby Vanderploeg. Both books are delightfully illustrated works featuring beloved animals and tell good stories by amazing female artists.

  3. Create Positive Vibes: Surrounding ourselves with uplifting messages can create a sense of well-being. Try one of these art prints from Society 6 like “You’re Doing Great!” or “Failures Plant The Seeds For Success.” Place somewhere prominent, like a home office or in a kid’s room, might just help influence positive vibes only!

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on or how you are creating positive in your life.

Make Mom Super Happy With These 3 Creative Ideas.

Hi, Creative Friends,

This is a Public Service Announcement. Mother’s Day is May 9th. Let’s celebrate our beautiful mommas by getting creative together!

This week, create a super happy mom, with these 3 simple creative ideas.

  1. Molly J. Wilk’s French Pastry Class: If you have a mom that loves to bake and also misses the art of travel, Molly J. Wilk has a solution. She offers accessible french pastry classes virtually from her kitchen in Versailles, France which can be found here on her website Molly J. Wilk Virtual Pastry Classes. All classes are held on Zoom and she provides recipes and the ability to access a private Facebook group to interact with other bakers. Molly also has a cookbook coming out in June called “French Pastry Made Simple” which can be pre-ordered! Either or both the pastry class and her book would keep mom’s creative juices flowing.

  2. Life In Color With David Attenborough: If curling up on the couch with Momma sounds like a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day, try the new documentary from Netflix “Life In Color With David Attenborough.” It’s full of beautiful images and wildlife wonders! Speaking of color, if Mom loves to wear beautiful things inspired by nature, and supporting small business is important, find mother a beautiful scarf from a local shop such as Morningtide.

  3. Bouquets For Mom: If you are a bit like me, sending mom a bouquet on Mother’s Day always makes for a super happy mom and FarmGirl Flowers makes shopping for bouquets easy, modern and fresh! The ship nationally too. However, if the thought of sending mom a darling bouquet that will wilt away before Memorial Day sounds like a deal-breaker, a curated beautiful bunch of floral art prints can be purchased here: Floral Art Prints At Society 6. My personal favorite is this Modern Mom Flowers Print with this vibrance and freshness it is sure to make momma swoon. If mom is interested in making her own bouquet art, try this fabulous Caran’dace Gouache Watercolor set and small Stillman & Birn multimedia sketchbook and watch momma smile!

Drop me a message and let me know what you are working on or a creative idea on how you will celebrate & create with mom!

Here is How You Can Help Every Man You Love.

Hi, Friends-

It’s November and that means it’s Movember!

What’s Movember?

It’s the men’s health awareness month and it’s when it’s time to “grow a mo!”

The mustache is always cool but November makes this sporting this facial hair the king of all coolness this month. Why? The mustache reminds all the men we care about that it is fully important to take care of their mental and physical health.

In honor of Movember, I have created a La Moustache art print and will make a donation at the end of November to the Movember Charity.

Now go pick up this La Moustache print at INPRNT. Gift this print to all the important men in your life to remind them, well past November, to care for themselves inside and out.

Sending you lots of bushy moustache hugs, friends.

This Is How You Wrap Up Thanksgiving in Happiness!

// Hi, Friends-

Can you believe Thanksgiving Day is just around the corner? This year, the holidays will probably look a bit different…

We will most likely skip the in-person meet-ups. That means a lot of family traditions might be put on hold this year.

We probably won’t sit around the Thanksgiving table together, ruminate about old vacations, volunteer our time to serve up meals at a soup kitchen, or make the grandparents happy by giving them big turkey hugs.

The “might not” can be hard to digest.

However, if you are a bit like me, times like these give opportunities to create something new.

A new tradition, an experimental way to celebrate, and a moment to get creative while still connecting with people we love.

That’s why I created this Thanksgiving Greetings turkey wrapping paper. Yes, turkey wrapping paper! You can wrap up happiness and drop it at someone’s door this Thanksgiving! Just go to Society6 to pick up the 5 sheets of Thanksgiving paper inspired by the turkeys of Albany!

If you need creative ways to use this paper to celebrate your Thanksgiving, here are three fun ideas:

Darling Place Settings

Use this lovely thick paper to add character to your Thanksgiving place settings. Make any Thanksgiving Tablescape darling!

A Sweet Loving Donation

1) Wrap up a can of pumpkin puree such as Libby’s (it’s my personal favorite) in a brown paper bag or buy fun wrapping paper such as Thanksgiving Greetings turkey paper on Society6.

2) Make a donation to a food bank like No Hungry Kid, Feeding America, or your local food pantry.

3) Add a bow and print this FREE “A Donation To A Local Food Bank Was Made In Your Honor” tag.

4) Drop this wonderful, loving gift on a friend’s porch!

turkey_wrapping_paper_2_sq.jpg

Wrap Up Something Special

A box of chocolates, a Mini artist print, a bottle of wine, or a bunch of flowers will look so festive wrapped in Thanksgiving Greetings, all of which can be dropped off on the doorstep of someone very special this Thanksgiving.

No matter how you celebrate this holiday season, may creativity inspire you to make things for people you love and wrap your Thanksgiving in happiness!

Sending you much love and light friends! //
